We began making this album in the Easter of 2012 at the studio of Terry Bradford and his wife Sussie in the Dordogne, south west France. In combining holidays with music we were able to experience a lifestyle and landscape so many people are drawn to. Over three years we made many visits to build our ark with matchsticks. We recorded mostly in the afternoon where sessions end once the first drink is served on the terrace. From here the vista that drew our hosts to become residents would begin to work its spell on us. As sunlight fell across the fields to reach distant vineyards and farm buildings, you would often catch a plume of wood smoke from neighbour Mel's chimney rising like a snake charmer's rope. As night settled and deer broke cover to graze, frogs began to drown our conversation until silence returned like a broken clock.
